Roo Case

Lighting Designer · Dancer · Choreographer

Roo Case is a dancer, choreographer, and lighting designer from Minneapolis. He will graduate from Carleton College in June with a BA in Computer Science and Dance and a minor in European Studies. His work has been showcased at Carleton and will be presented at the American College Dance Association conference in Laramie, Wyoming.  He dances with The Braggarts, a local Morris dance team, and has performed nationally as a member.

His show, The Observer Effect, will premiere at the Weitz Center at Carleton on April 18th and 19th.

I've been interested in theatrical lighting design since I was in middle school when I was the board operator for a summer production of High School Musical and a spotlight operator for Suessical in my sophomore year of high school. Since then, I've done electrician-type work at the high school, college, and professional levels. I'm familiar and comfortable with bench focusing, hanging and focusing, and light board operation (primarily Element/Element 2, ION, and ETCNomad systems). I'm the president of Carleton College's Technical Theater Team and oversee the maintenance of multiple theaters on campus.

I have been dancing since I was roughly three years old, following my dad around at Morris practice and dancing to Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, and Debbie Reynolds in Singin' in the Rain. I spent thirteen years at Young Dance, a youth all-abilities dance company based in the Twin Cities, and served on the board for two additional years after graduating from the repertory company. I've been lucky to perform work choreographed by Minnesota and nationally known artists such as HIJACK, Ananya Dance Theater, SuperGroup, Megan Flood, Brian Evans, Leslie Parker, Phil Chan, Daphne McCoy, and Sam Aros Mitchell.

You can find examples of my work under the "Portfolios" section of my website and more about my choreography under the "Artist Statement" portion.
